
Rustem Hayroudinoff has performed throughout Europe, the Americas, Japan, China and Russia, appearing as soloist with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony, NHK Symphony, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, Czech National Symphony and Czech Philharmonic. He has collaborated with conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Marin Alsop, Gianandrea Noseda and Giancarlo Guerrero.
Praised by Gramophone as “a player in the great Russian virtuoso tradition”, Hayroudinoff is particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Russian repertoire. His recordings for Chandos, EMI and Onyx Classics have received wide international recognition. His recording of the complete Rachmaninoff Preludes was selected by Classic FM Magazine as part of its “Essential Rachmaninoff Collection” alongside recordings by Arthur Rubinstein and André Previn. The complete Études-Tableaux was described by BBC Music Magazine as a “benchmark recording”, became its Instrumental Choice of the Month, and was nominated for the magazine’s Best Instrumental CD of the Year award. It was also chosen by BBC Radio 3’s Building a Library as the recommended recording of the works. Reviewing this album and the Dvorák Concerto, BBC Music Magazine compared Hayroudinoff’s artistry to that of Sviatoslav Richter.
His performances have been broadcast by most major classical radio stations across the world, and he has appeared in the documentary "The Unknown Shostakovich" alongside Vladimir Ashkenazy and Maxim Shostakovich.
Based in the United Kingdom, Hayroudinoff has appeared at major venues including the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and St John’s Smith Square in London, as well as internationally at venues as diverse as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Frick Collection in New York, the Rudolfinum in Prague and NHK Hall in Tokyo.
A charismatic communicator, he is known for his engaging and accessible approach to concert presentation, offering audiences insights into the music with warmth, clarity and humour.
Hayroudinoff is Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music. He is also Goodwill Ambassador for Rainbows4children, an independent foundation supporting educational opportunities for disadvantaged children in Ethiopia.
